SEM tactics

I discovered a great article today in the SearchMarketingStandard Magazine and I just had to share it because it is something I feel strongly about.

The article had to do with SEO tactics in todays society and how people will jump on anything. There are so many contraversial topics in SEO today, and so many people want to jump at the first thing they hear.

Here is a list of topics that are currently argued at tradeshows and conferences:
-Paid links will get you penalized
-Social networking is the only new way to SEO
-Directory submissions have lost importance
-"Links" pages are not effective anymore

I could go on and on here, but lets just touch on a few of the ones above.

When we look at this list, we all say, "yea, i have definitely heard that". So to shed a little light on the matter, everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt here. All of the topics above can be looked at as true and false.

Social Networking, the new huge buzz around the seo tables. I have seen so many articles that talk about how traditional SEO is dead, and that social networking is the new way to go. I just don't buy it. There will always be a need for traditional SEO, and there has always been a need since I got into this industry over 5 years ago. Yes, we might want to dabble in the blogs and myspace to get a little more exposure. And, yes, we might want to create a great network of linkedin pages relating to the industry we are working on. But, the matter of the fact is, without your title tags and your keyword related content and your basic good quality links, your site will never see the light of day.

All these topics always get argued about until people are blue in the face. The simple solution to all these topics is very simple, take every seo tactic and every topic with a grain of salt.

I feel much better getting that off my chest :)
